  • What are your thoughts about the evolution of the game controller? I think that the Wii controller is the first major jump in thinking since the NES gamepad. It might be a failed attempt. It's really innovative and takes a real chance in ergonomics. In my mind, you have joysticks, nes, addition of triggers (minor), then no other real innovation. (Well, triggers were really really minor but it was a bigger change than anything else I can think of between nes and wii.

I believe that interface design is probably 100x harder than game design. The stakes are much higher. If a game sucks, that game doesn't sell, but if an interface sucks, a company can fail. Intellivision had better games than atari, but was a victim of a bad interface. Will Wii's interface allow it to do more with less? (i.e. Attract players to "lesser" games.)

Wii is the first console I've considered buying since NES, and it's simply because of the interface.

  • Long time listener, first time caller. We all know that no console survives the console wars without 3rd party developer support. The trend lately seems to be to publish the same game on every single platform possible. Do you think the next gen console wars will take things to the next level with more exclusive content? Each console either pumping more money into these developers and obtaining exclusivity, technically moving these 3rd party developers into 2nd party status. BTW. Robotron rules, period.
